Khadi

Khadi is a hand spun and handwoven fabric, made primarily out of cotton and sometimes out of silk or wool. The yarn is manually spun on a spinning wheel called chakra and then woven into fabric. The fabric is usually coarse and rough, giving it a unique aesthetic appeal. Although khadi has long existed as a traditional handicraft of India, it was brought into focus my an initiative in self reliance started by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920s.
